Decided to take the boat out after being gone all summer and took some rods out with me. Roland and I were "gentleman fishing" today.

Stopped to get some bait with the sabiki rods and then went out just west of Buoy 24. First drop with a livey produced a hit that I couldn't stop. It broke off the 35# leader and kept going. Switched to 80# and immediately landed a 21 inch red. In total we got three keeper reds, but no gags. Not even shorts! Never had that happen before. Numerous grunts and sea bass.

I also caught a 5 foot nurse shark. Talk about surprised and disappointed. Brought it right up to the boat, but alas, no camera. Aer Lingus still hasn't returned my backpack with my camera.

Anyway, a good day to be back fishing.

I wonder what's going on with the nurse sharks. I'd never caught one in all my years fishing the area but have got one each on my last two trips. The first one was probably 8 feet long and the second was probably 7 feet long. Crazy!
