Newbe update.

Post by vaviper »

Ok fellos, I think I will keep the oil injection on the ol Yammy. I took her out today from Keaton Beach Marina. She sounds so good when she is running. BUT As we idled out to the gulf from the inlet all was good until it was time to give her some gas as soon as I started to accelerate she would stop her forward progress like the prop was not turning. The motor would rev up but the boat wouldnt go. As long as we were going slow it was ok but as sonn as you try to give it gas it wouldnt go. Like I said the motor would rev up real high but the boat would stop. HELP!!! :-? As if that was not enough. When we were coming back in the alarm started to sound!. :x I cut the motor down and checked out the motor to see if it was hot. I really dont know what I was looking at. Then I started the motor no alarm for a few minutes then off it goes again. waited a few and started no alarm for a few then she starts to alarm agaim by this time I was back at the dock??? WTF ??? :smt005 I guess I better break down and spend some money and get a pro to look at it. :smt012 What do you guys make of it? :smt011

All in all I was glad to be out on the water and glad to be able to check the motor out. Would have liked a better out come but atleast i can get her right. Alittle windy today but I can smell spring time!! Its been a long winter! Thanks for everyones help. :-D

SOUNDS LIKE THE RUBBER BUSHING IN THE PROP IS GONE, NOT TOO EXPENSIVE TO GET REPLACED. MOST ANY MARINE SUPPLY HOUSE CAN DO THIS.

VAVIPER, THIS IS NOT A SELF REPAIR. THEY HAVE TO PUT IT IN UNDER PRESSURE ALONG WITH ADHESEIVE. DOESN'T TAKE BUT A FEW MIN. TO ACTUALLY DO THE INSTALLATION, MUST CLEAN OUT ALL OF THE OLD STUFF FIRST. IF IT WAS GEARS YOU WOULD BE SURE AND HEAR A LOT OF NOISE. YOU CAN CHECK TO BE SURE IT IS THE BUSHING BY PUTTING ENGINE , NOT RUNNING, IN GEAR AND GRAB THE PROP , IF IT TURNS JUST A SMALL AMOUNT THAT IS WHAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.

This may be a dumb answer, but is there any chance you were cavitating? I know if I try to gun my boat it will cavitate if I have the motor trimmed a little too high.

Just a thought.

Yea I just went out there and put it in gear and tried to turn it and I can turn it alittle. Feels kind of spongy. I didnt wat to pull too hard on it but it does move slightly and feels kind of spongy. What should it feel lik? I guess it should just be real firm and not move at all kinda like it is hitting something to make it not move instead of being spongy?

CHECK OUT THE SENDING UNIT, CLEAN AND TIGHTEN ALL CONNECTORS, SOMETIME THEY GET A LITTLE CORROSION ON THEM. WHEN YOU CLEAN THEM SPRAY THE CONNECTORS WITH A LITTLE COAT OF W-D 40 AND THEN TIGHTEN THE BOLTS OR SCREWS.

Send the prop here and they will rehub it "replace the center rubber"
Gator Propeller & Welding Service
(850) 584-6727
4359 Puckett Rd, Perry, FL 32348

The alarm is probably the overheat alarm. Is there a good stream coming from the Pee hole on the motor?

I just went out there this morning and hooked the hose/ears to it and fired it up Alarm started as soon as I turned the key. It does have a real good pee coming out so its forsure not the over heating. It seems to be smoking like it suppose to so I think its getting oil. I am going to go out there now and try to clean up and wd40 anything that it needs. what do you think?

Parkway Marine 878-7365

Pay him now to fix it for a reasonable fee, or pay him a lot to fix it later.
What was I supposed to do today?

Ok well I had some help about the alarm. It was the reserve oil tank on the motor. It was alittle low and the sending unit was alittle gummed up i filled the tank cleaned the sending unit and that was it!
So now off I go to have the prop bushing replaced and I should be good to go. THANKS alot to everyone!

Hey tin can where is this place you speak of that will fix the prop located? Iam about 1hr from Perry where the other fello told me to take the prop.

I was referring to fixing and/or checking out the motor. Parkway marine is located 1/2 mile east of Wal Mart on Apalachee Parkway, in Tallahassee. He's a BBFN sponsor.

As for getting the prop repaired, Gator, in Perry, is as good as any.

Just a thought. If the sending unit was gummed up, what else is gummed up?
