Fuel Injected Motor Help
Finally got my boat out after an extended stay in dry dock. I have a 2001 200 HP Evinrude Fuel Injected Motor. I always empty my water separator cannister after an extended period of time out of commission to get out any condensation of water out of my fuel line. Normally fill the cannister back up with fuel, however, this time I just installed the water separator cannister back without filling it with fuel. She cranked right up. I idled from my marina past the no wake zone (about a quarter of a mile) and then attempted to power her up. She just bogged out and stalled. I attempted to pump up the ball in my fuel line and it felt squissy like it did not have fuel in the line. Filled the cannister with fuel and got the ball in my fuel line to fill up with fuel and the motor cranked up. After running for a few minutes the motor would begin to run rough until I pumped up the ball again. If I did not pump up the ball it would stall out. If I pumped up the ball she would start again only to stall out again until I pumped up the ball again. In a carburated model I would say fuel pump. Not sure about the new technology. Pretty sure I got air in the fuel line due to not filling the water separater cannister initially but not sure how to diagnos why it is running and then stalling out. What would you do next if it was your motor?

That was my first thought PA, but the bulb should collaps if the vent is stopped up or closed, shouldn't it!

My thought is you are correct . And it probably won't run right until you get all the air out. If it were carbed the air would bleed itself through the carb bowl vents. A fuel injection system doesn't have vents. I would start with running it on the hose. When it stalls, pump it up and run it some more.Sea Sea Rider wrote: Pretty sure I got air in the fuel line due to not filling the water separater cannister initially but not sure how to diagnos why it is running and then stalling out. What was I supposed to do today?

Re: Fuel Injected Motor Help
Changed the clamp and cut back the hose on my fuel line that comes from the tank and into the water separator. Cranked it up and she never stalled out again. Maybe that was the problem or maybe the air in the line was the problem. I just know whenever I change out the filter or empty the filter I am going to always make sure the cannister is full of fuel before replacing. Sure is nice when a simple thing fixes the problem. $1.10 to fix, sweet!
Thanks for your responses.

There should be a shrader valve somewhere on the fuel rail. If that happens again, crack the valve and pump the ball until you get nothing but fuel. The valve will look like the valve in the AC system on your car.
