Will Rain Ruin Inshore Bite?

Post by Harmsway »

Just wondering what the Board thinks about all this rain. Will it help or spoil the bite when it finally clears up?

Yeah, me too, RC. Guess it doesn't matter what the bite will be like this weekend; I'll go fishing when I can.

Guess I was hoping someone would offer an informed opinion on some real scientific stuff like how all that river water emptying into the Gulf will affect salinity and how that will effect bait and how that will affect trout, redfish, spanish, etc.

I fished Monday after the down poor last weekend, it didnt seem to murk up the water too bad near the creeks but the bite wasnt on for me although I saw nearly 50 fish. Wind was ticking me off worst of all...

it sure surprised me on monday and tuesday at how clear the water was. i just knew the water was going to look like chocolate milk after all the wind and then the heavy rain. it was clearer on tuesday than it was on monday. :smt009

i do remember many years ago when there was a ton of rain that we had to get way away from the major rivers because of all the fresh water. for instance, you had to go way east of the econ to find decent numbers of trout. we could never find anything outside the aucilla or econ as far as trout go. it never seems to affect the reds however. i remember longing every trip for the days when the water was clear down there like it is now. it seemed like it stayed dingy for ever.

I don't think so, but it may cause the fish to move to different areas for a while. I have always heard that trout like to spawn in high salinity areas, so the big sow trout may move to areas with less fresh water flow. Most of my best sow trout areas (for march and April anyway) are away from creeks and rivers.
