If you're talking gear though, it's hard to beat the Penn Combos for the $$$$$. I like the 113 (4.0) or the 114H (6.0) for the reel. I like "broomstick" roller rods for the grouper. I've gone to using a 7.5' medium action Ugly Stick with a Shimano 2500FB for the snapper or if I get bored with them, I'll use the 7.5' medium action IM8 with the Calcutta 400. Lots of fun wearing out snapper with that one Of course, that's if you can find any snapper

Buy shimanos, stay away from the new penns unless you like to do maintenance.
