I had my first trip to the CSB / SJB 2 months ago and I love it so much there that it wont be my last. I fish out of a Native Ultimate which allows me to stand and sight fish and cast if I want to and I am really wanting to just hook into a tarpon on fly. (I know catching is a whole different story so I will be satisfied with a hookup for now) I have been throwing the 11wt for a while now and am satisfied with my distance and accuracy out to 70'. The only problem I am having is what section of the bay is better and should I be targeting sandy areas right on the edges of grass etc...
If this is a secret area, feel free to pm me. I will keep it a secret as well.

Start at Eagle Harbour and work your way towards the end of the point. If conditions are right go ahead and circle the point and work up towards the cape. The second sand bar usually works out better for hook ups, they are a little more skiddish in on the first sand bar. Good luck.

I launch near the playground at Eagle Harbor so I got you there. Any depth, I need to be paying attention too?
From reading your post, it looks like I need to be taking my kayak out past the breakers as well, when lounging at the beach house during the day.
Thanks for the info!

I would ride on the edge of the shallows and the deeper water and just watch for any sign and then move as you need to, but most likely they will stay in the deeper water.

I know they make that circle at the kayak launch near the forestry dock. Its the launch where the road pinches up to the gulf. Put in bayside, paddle out past that dock on your left and fish those clear deep holes. I hooked a barn burner in there when it ate my trout.

You're going to have a hard row to hoe sight fishing for poons in a Yak with a fly rod on the Gulf side. Get up as high as you can. Every little bit helps.
