HEY.. CHALK...
Or on the outside chance that someone else has been there before, I'm interested in finding a source for replacement eyes for a top water plug. I don't remember what brand it is (possibly a rebel or spook) but its a fairly large plug and had red dome eyes with a small black center. One of the more aggressive strikes in the last tournament apparently removed the eye from it's socket. I played around with a red craft bead that my wife donated and split it in half then took another very small black one and split it then super glued it inside of the red one and attached the whole business with a small dab of 3M 5200. I'm gonna check the integerity of the replacement tonight when I get home. However, I have been looking around on the internet this morning to see if I could find a source for replacement eyes. Haven't found anything other than some fly tying stuff and I don't think they would be suitable. The replacement needs to be some sort of a dome shape as they protrude out a good bit. Any body got a source?

DOG GONE IF THAT AIN'T QUICK SERVICE. Thanks Birddog, that's exactly what I was looking for.
With all the variations of "lure replacement eyes" I tried, You would think this site would have come up but it didn't.

I dont think the eyes make a bit of difference on a top water plug.
All they really see is the belly anyway. I bet an all Ivory plug would be killer.

I think there is a lot to that Bman. When they are chewing they will hit most anything. There is a guy, Apollobeachsam (saltyshores) that a few years ago, to prove a point threaded about a 3" piece of shoestring on a jig head and proceeded to wack the reds with it.

I have to take exception to the notion that the eyes don't make a difference on a top water plug. If they are the dome type, as in my case, they protrude out from the side quite a bit. When you consider the side to side motion and if you study the silhouette from below, I think you'll see that the eyes are pretty obvious. Depending on how the light is coming from above, I believe that can also increase the effect even more (imo). If the eyes are just painted on then I would agree that the impact on a topwater might not be all that great. I have to believe that eye's are fairly important in the scheme of things else God wouldn't have created so may species with extra (fake) simulated eyes to give smaller fish a better chance from preditors...ie many times the predators go for the end with the eyes.

Re: HEY.. CHALK...
So try putting the eyes on the back of the bait to see if it increases your hookup ratio. It just might work

just throw a redfish superspook or skitterwalk, I bet you'll catch more on the rear hooks compared to the front than you do with other plugs....Barhopr wrote:So try putting the eyes on the back of the bait to see if it increases your hookup ratio. It just might work
In the end we will conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. And we will understand only what we are taught.

Found this photo on line of a topwater at rest on the water....

And Then found this one

Maybe we should put the eye on the bottom!?!?!?!?
