I read this and said "WTF!!!"
I read this on ESPN this morning and I can't quite wrap my mind around the Staten Island part of this.

I guess this is why we've gone soft and are getting pushed around.

I blame the lawyer as well.
Re: I read this and said "WTF!!!"
I didn't see which of the defendants posted the settlement money. If there were as many parties involved as indicated, several may have pitched in a nominal amount of money to make this PITA go away. Would be interesting to know which defendents chipped in; hopefully not the volunteer coach who was assigned an uncooridnated, fragile player....

Obviously this had to be this woman's first male child…what a load of Crap ! I've been through 20 yrs of baseball with two boys, she should buy him a video game player and keep him inside, if she is that warped over a injury from baseball.

Well, we know whose not playing football in his future!
Scary that these people exist in this world and our litigation-happy society allows it to happen.

I don't see the incentive to settle in this case. I'd take my chances with a jury... even a crazy yankee jury on Staten Island.
The somber lesson here is.. be VERY careful where and how you volunteer your time, especially with kids. Once an accusation flies, or a kid gets hurt, it's dayum near impossible to "unring" a bell.
Imagine taking an underpriviledged kid out for a day of flats fishing (maybe a once in a lifetime deal for the kid). You're not a licensed captain and you certainly don't have the appropriate liability insurance, you're just trying to make a difference to a needy kid. Fate happens and the kid gets tossed and can't swim..
You're the one who would end up underpriviledged. It's just too bad

I read that she was enrolling her son in cage fighting to rebuff all the crap he is going to be subjected to by his peers!

Unreal scenario for sure.....I guess now laws need to be enacted to give protection to coaches! Of course, coaches working as state employees already have such coverage
to a great extent... normally excluding illegal, immoral and/or unethical behavior. Can you imagine the attitude of the young man as he grows up? He needs a forehead tatoo that says simply I'll SUE YOU!
