Scoop and Poop Hit The Water Again!

Post by Scoop Sea »

Thanks for the warm reception on my first post last night. For those who read that post yesterday, you'll understand tonight's Subject Headline.

Today, the pound hound and I hit the water again. We put in at Rock Landing around 1000 and the wind was ripping. On top of that, it looked like someone pulled the plug on the drain. The wind coupled with the low tide made unloading a challenge. Thanks to a gentleman waiting on his fishing partner (he provided a much needed push) the launch went better than it could have flying solo with those conditions.

On my first stop, I noted that pound hound decided to bat a thousand and left another landmine in the boat. Fortunately, today I wasn't fighting a fish when I discovered it. Over the side it went, after I took a picture of it and sent it to my wife with the heading "What type of bait is this?". She lovingly replied "that's what the dog thinks of your fishing skills". :o :o

After 4.5 hours of getting whipped by the wind and covering most of the Bay, I managed to land the first fish of the day, a nice fat 18 inch trout that unfortunately swallowed the jig. I wasn't planning on keeping fish today, but I didn't want to let this one go due to the jig in it's gut. From 2:30 until approximately 5:00, I managed to catch 8 trout, 1 lizzard fish, 1 flounder (caught on a lizzard fish strip: thanks for the tip), and one small shark. Everything was caught on a CJ with a New Penny Gulp in 4 foot or less of water. I tried various other lures, but they didn't come through today. Water temp. was 66-68.

There were 5 or 6 other boats out there today. Most of them were moving around. I did note one boat that made several drifts over an hour or so. Maybe they had better luck.

The trout went home with a cane-pole fishing lady at the boat ramp.  Unfortunately, she wouldn't take the dog along with the trout.  Maybe next time.

Sorry but there really wasn't anything worth taking a picture of to post on the board.

Take Care....

Yeah the wind was something else. I brought the camera both days, but didn't really have any good shots to post. Hopefully that will change here shortly.

Another good report  Might consider tak'n the pound hound for a quick walk after you have the boat launched. It may be he's just excited...at least he doesn't leave his gift in the car ?? Sounds like he might be part bird dog...they always seem to need to evacuate at the beginning of a hunt... :D

Good Point Sir Reel. I did play with him in the backyard for quite a while before we headed to Panacea, thinking that would do the trick. Oh well, at least this time, I spotted it before things got too messy.

On the note of bird dogs, I forgot to mention in my posts that both Wednesday evening and yesterday morning, I saw a few good flights of ducks taking a look at Piney Island. I couldnt ID them due to distance (and the fact that they weren't on the ground.........).

Sounds fishy, but defintely not smelling that way, if you know what I mean..... Came back from being gone all day yesterday and the pound hound had dug up some of my sprinkler system. I'm not so sure about this guy being man's best friend.....
