Wakulla River 11/15

Hit the river with my daughter this afternoon. Her in the kayak, me in my canoe. Clear water, cool breeze, warm sunshine. We were kind of "fishing", but mostly we were just getting her stick time in the 'yak.
Remember the snook trees (mangroves) I've posted pictures of before? Well they've started working. Checking under the docks for bass as we drifted by, after casting to them, I saw what I at first thought was a gar laying just under the surface. But it didn't look right so I decided it must be a mullet. But it didn't look right so I decided it must be a bass. But it didn't look right so I decided it must be a "HOLYCRAPWHAT'STHATDOINGHERE???"

The two biggest bass I saw were out in the eel grass, away from other apparent cover. The first I saw swimming away just under the surface after I spooked it. The second tried to take my yellow Snagless Sally home with it, but came unstuck.
