I had to go see what the fuss was about fishing in the river so a buddy and I took of for the coast. We fished the river at marker 26-27 and caught a limit. It was easy fishing and the weather was beautiful. Fish were mostly caught on sinking red/white mirrorlures. Throw em up current and just let them drift back. Seemed like if we twitched them at all they wouldn't bite that cast. We probably caught 30 trout or so I lost count. We half heartedly tried to catch a redfish with no luck. The most excitement was at the ramp in the morning. Guy in front of us back his trailer off the side of the Jena ramp. Dang near jerked the wheel off getting it out. I ended up jacking the trailer up and putting a piece of wood under the wheel. If it stays cold I suspect the trout will be there. It's suppose to rain tomorrow. Might have to go again anyway.
Suppose I should put the right year in the title...

I thought that was you Chris after reading another post earlier by you. Maybe we can have a better trip after the Finholloway trip, that was a nightmare. I am gonna go to Steinhatchee tomorrow, possibly solo, gonna leave the boat there tomorrow and go back saturday and stay til sunday. Let me know if you come down. I would have asked if you wanted to go tomorrow but i figured you had your fill.
I don't think I'll be down there today. I might though. Saturday might be a challenge if the North wind blows down the river. Did you get your dad to go?
If I had my old pictures of when I was a child fishing in the Steinhatchee River after a hard freeze, your eyeballs would pop out of your head. That used to be the most awesome river for huge trout in the winter.
Chug, I saw where you posted about a boater with little etiquette on the other big bend forum. I thought I would share mine. I was sitting about 40 yards from the grass below the mouth of the creek at marker 26 on Sunday. I see an air boat round the corner at the end of the no wake zone. He was coming down the grassline as expected. A few hundred yards from me there is another boat that he has to pass by and he is about 150 yards from the grass line and he is still hugging the grass line running WOT. Then he is still coming wide open as he gets closer to me and passes between me and the grass. This is precisely where my lure is landing when I throw. My partner and I just look at each other in disbelief. I am not saying he did or did not screw up my fishing but it kinda got me a little hot just for the point of the matter. I cant recall the name of the boat but it was the only airboat that came out all day Sunday to my knowledge. He never even looked at me or I would have threw up one of those international symbols telling him where it was safe to go.... I thought about yelling but an airboat wide open and muffs on both people, it would have done nothing. Just my 2 cents...

Cameras hadn't been invented when you were a child.
Kirt...Airboats aren't included in any kind of etiquet. They don't give a crap either way. The guy I was talking about was in a Carolina Skiff you coulda landed a helicopter on. Captain Casino Dave was on the side of his boat. You could hear his mouth runnin before you could see him.
Yeh, would have to agree on most all the airboats, just never had one do something that obnoxious. I saw the casino dave on sunday also, i believe he was fishing alone that day. Didnt have any unpleasantries this time but will definitely keep an eye out.
