The freshman class garnered a lot of attention as freshman defensive end Dan Hicks was recognized as Defensive Scout co-MVP along with senior defensive back Jeff Taccetta, while freshman wide receiver Josh Gehres was selected as the offensive Scout team MVP. Garnering more attention for the class of 2013 were freshmen Lonnie Pryor and Greg Reid who were selected as the Top Newcomers on offense and defense, respectively.
The unit also added an academic commitment award category for each class. Honored for the freshman class were Gehres (offense), safety Justin Bright (defense), kicker Dustin Hopkins (special teams) and Pryor (commitment). On target within the sophomore class were quarterback EJ Manuel (offense), punter Shawn Powell (special teams) and running back Jermaine Thomas (commitment).
