Keaton Beach, 3/12-13

Post by ddb »

Fished out of Keaton Friday afternoon (falling) and Saturday morning (rising). Picked up 8 trout on Friday including this 23" by Mark in the middle of the falling tide.Image
The trout were caught on a mixture of plugs (gold Redfin, and catch 2000 808) and plastics under Cajuns. The water started at 62 degrees and went south. Friday was windy, overcast all day, foggy from 4 pm to @ 6 pm, and rainy from around 4-5. The bite was pretty good until the fog rolled in. Saturday was a hole different story. Water was even more stained (I guess from the all night blow), temps dropped to 62. We covered a lotttt of water and didn't get a bite until 1 pm, around 30 minutes before we had to head out. Just as well, the wind increasing from 20 mph to 25 and we had had enough.

I guess with the front passing through the changing pressure gave the fish a head-ache?

Brave men fishing Saturday. Great job on Friday, you looked like yall had to keep covered up. Seems people who try the Keaton area are doing pretty well if they find the right conditions.

You are one brave soul!

Did you see many other boats?

What water depth was the fish in?

Thanks, JC

Friday was pretty quiet, but once the fog rolled in you couldn't see more than 100 yds anyhow :o There was a surprising number of boats on Saturday, but most gave it up when the wind kicked into high gear. Most of our fish were caught in 3.5-4.5, but in winding conditions I'm more inclinded to stay out of the deaper stuff.

Thanks for the report. I'm fishing one day this week, probably Thursday or Friday. Will report on success or lack thereof. I've been in south GA since 2001 and this is the worst winter/spring for weather I have seen. I'm from Virginia and this reminds me of up there. Anyone else sick of the damn rain/wind/rapidly changing water temps? I was complaining last fall about the heat and I will NEVER do that again...

You can't beat that with the weather we had this weekend. I tried to sneak in a pre-wind kayak trip early Sunday morning with no success. Might have been better had the tide come in earlier. Nice fish!

Could be. It's gotta be a crime to look this good. 8)
