St Marks 4/10

Post by onefishtwofish »

Started out in deeper water. Plan was float a shrimp and work jigs. I casted out the shrimp and had just set it in the holder when the clicker goes ape! Reeled in a decent Spanish. It was a sign to come. Fished the 7-9 foot depth for a while, caught a few more spanish.

Headed in to 5-6 foot and caught a variety, not much in size other than the nicest Spanish I have ever caught not at SGI. Finished in 3-4 feet and caught a few trout real fast, only one keeper. Water temp peaked at 71.5.

Got back to the No See Ums, errr, I mean ramp and found a keeper trout in the bed of my truck, packed in ice. Whoever set it there must have known we were cleaning that day so we added one more trout to the pile of spanish and trout. Not an awesome day, but enough action we had fun. Nephew caught a decent size bonnethead, first shark of the year. He also caught a cat (the guy is a catfish magnet).

Oh yeah, we fished all day without a leader and only lost one Spanish (oddly enough, my nephew had a leader on his!). Just figured it was workin, so we would tempt fate! ;-)
Ducks, turkeys, flats fishing. Who has time for golf?

Those spanish sure were stingy!
