St Marks Sunday Good & Bad

Finally after about a gazillion years I was able to get my boat and butt back on the water.However it weren't a great day.We finally started to catch few snake trout and the man pulled up scared away the fish we had finally found.That was bad, he wrote me a warning for out of date flares?? that was good, he left I finally caught my first keeper, that was good.That was the last fish I caught all day,that was bad. Then while searching for better ground I found some--rock hard ground, that was bad.The prop was not bent, and there was no vibration,that was good.We finally headed for the hill,boat ran great,flat seas, went wide open from grey mare to the lighthouse pool,that was good. Got to the dock I stepped off at the dock, my buddy put it in reverse, and went nowhere,that was bad, after several minutes of trying the gear shift I raised the motor--no prop,that was very bad. Can anyone help me out with a prop for a 96-98 90 hp yamaha.My problem is I am not sure what size or pitch, has anyone had any experiance with com-props? Any help would be much appreciated.

Question, why would he issue a warning for out of date flares? I fish St. Joe Bay and have never been asked for flares. I was wondering if this is something new or other circumstances involved. I sure hate it for the prop. I had to be towed in last week on St. Joe for engine problems. Everyone on this forum has been helpful and I am positive you will be pointed in the right direction.

you may have tried this but did you look in the water for the prop? It should have came off the moment you hit reveres if anytime. it should not come off when you are are going forward.

Scott7138, you've been lucky. Florida boating regs read, "Vessels less than 16 feet in length are required to carry at least 3 visual distress signals approved for nighttime use when on coastal waters from sunset to sunrise. Vessels 16 feet or longer must carry at least 3 daytime and three nighttime visual distress signals (or 3 combination daytime/nighttime signals) at all times when on coastal waters."

Pretty sure this regs been standard for some time (got my boat in '05 and bought flares then). Guessing you know this but got to have an "efficient" noise-making device too. Here's a link to the sum of the regs since this topic only hits one and there are a number more...

I tried ComProps back in my bass boat days. They were alot more affordable back then. They are designed to break away if you hit something. The "something" is the problem I tried two of them and broke blades and never felt a thing running down the channel of a lake. My take is they're not durable but used to be a cheap back up. The prices have gone up to the point where buying aluminum is the better choice. I have an aluminum 24 pitch if you are interested, it's too much prop for my boat "no bottom end". I'll be in Ecofina this weekend. Let me know.
