Do they need a license?

Post by georgiasportsman »

I am going to Econfina Saturday and taking a friend and our wives. The wives will not be fishing. They are just going to ride in the boat, talk, read books, and get some sun. If they do not pick up a rod and we stick to a 2-man limit will we have any problems with the wives not having a fishing license?

You shouldn't but that doesn't mean you won't.
They CAN NOT touch a fish, fishing rod, net or anything else or at least that's my understanding.

I have been down that road before. What RC said is true, technically they don't, but watch out if you have extra rods in the boat. That is to say... more than the rods you guys are fishing with. To "them" it can look suspicious.

They don't have to have a license, but they can not participate in the catching or landing of fish in any way "including the driving of the boat if trolling" :smt012

Many years ago I was told by the FL Marine Patrol that if you are on the boat and there are enough rods for everyone you are fishing in there eyes. Things could have changed since i guess.

Trolling is fishing and therefor the driver is considered a fisher

Technically they don't need a license to ride along. However, if they are in the boat and you are fishing, and the man checks you, and he's already pissed off by someone else, he could make a case and you would wind up proving innocence in court. My thought would be, as much as you are already investing in a trip from Georgia, $17 license would be cheap insurance.

When y'all start to catch fish the Wives are going to say " Let us catch one" Then you will be forced to tell the Wives, NO! Then the rest of the day will leave y'all with a lot of short answers and some unhappy women. (That not good).
If we were all crazy, Wouldn't that make us all normal.
