Opening day here in Kentucky and I got to be a part of my friend's first Turkey! We didn't have much of a plan since I didn't scout our farm this year, but I knew it had birds. The morning started out cloudy with light rain and the birds were not very vocal. As the clouds broke and the morning wore on we starting hearing a few gobbles every now and then. I was using everything I had in my vest!!! Slate calls, mouth call, push pin call, etc.... Finally I picked up my Primo's box call and started cutting and yelping very aggressively. Out of nowhere a very upset hen come down the hill at our setup... She was some kind of pizzed off!!....cutting and yelping back at me!!! Awesome! That fired up a nice gobbler above us and after about 30-45 mins Larry's bird came around the corner and BOOM! Great morning to be in the woods!! I think being a part of someone's first bird is just as rewarding as harvesting one yourself!!!... I think..
I got home from fishing yesterday and saw my neighbor in his yard. I went over to get him to show him my gator trout I had caught but first he had to show me his first turkey. It was a good day for both us.
