John McLaurin recapped the SMYC tourney (Brian and I participated and had lots of fun; I even won a cool bracelet and necklace).
Rod Presnell showed us the Lasso Net and raffled one off to attendees. http://www.thelassonet.com/lasso-net.
Casey Cook told us about Hands Helping Anglers on June 5. Looking forward to that! We also decided that NFGFC's "home" channel on VHF will be 18.
Captain Randy Peart was our guest speaker and talked to us about fishing in black (dirty) water (super relevant b/c of the rain). Main points include:
1) Fish bright colors. Chartreuse, bone, candy corn, and gold are all good.
2) Work lures more slowly, but noise from a popping cork or top water can be good. Randy says the fish aren't as "spooky" in the cloudy water since it provides some cover.
3) Stinky things are good. Gulp or live bait may be the ticket when it's too dark for fish to see the baits well.
Some interesting side effects of lots of rain and the cold winter that we've had are more flounder (nom nom nom), trout being fashionably late to the flats (fish deeper if possible), and big trout along the shoreline. Cool info to know!
The raffle was fantastic as usual, even though I'm certain Steve quit putting my tickets in the bucket. Highlights included a Falcon Casting rod!
