Where to fish in Panama City

Post by georgiasportsman »

My dad and I have yet to find any redfish or keeper size trout after 2 mornings in Panama City. Tomorrow (Saturday) is dad's last day at the beach with us and I would really like to find some fish. Can anyone give me some advice on general areas to try? We fished the backside of Shell Island Thursday and several areas in West Bay this morning. So far all we have found are really small trout, ladyfish, and catfish. Any advice would be appreciated as I am new to fishing this far west.

i'm not that familiar with pc. you can try under the bridge. there is a catwalk. along the seawall there is surprisingly big mango snapper approaching 12+" there are lots of big pinfish and sheepshead will usually get your shrimp first so it's better to use gulp or micro pinfish for mangos. try wading out in front of the rock wall. there are some flats right off the wall and there is always greeies around. the rockwall that runs under the bridge should hold some big flaties too. I would toss plugs early morning for gators. big gators love flats right off a seawall.

Backside of Shell island is usually good for reds and trout....place is different from anywhere to the east...its like a bowl. There isn't to many expansive flats....trout are on the drop offs and the reds are on the bank.

Chalk, do you know two fellows that fish out of Panama City named Chumhead and Captain Jim?

Thanks for the fishing advice.

We were in Panama City several weeks ago but didn't take the boat. We did go out on the beach at St. Andrews Park and saw Shell Island. Seems the water is rough around the island or it was that day.

Thanks again for you generous advice. That is what makes for a good fishing site!
