Aucilla 5-21-10

Post by cleanlivin »

Got down to Aucilla early friday morning and headed to try and catch some redfish. We threw some topwater baits but the fish were short striking them. We swithced to gold spoons and gulp jerk baits and eneded up catching 8 reds one was just over 30". We eneded up bringing hoe 3 the ranged right around 24'. After ther tide got high we headed out to try for trout in about 6' of water. We caught a bunch of shorts and eneded up with 5 keepers. At about 12 noon we headed back to hill it was getting way to hot. Anyways it was a great trip and looks like the water is starting to clear up some to.

If you can put in over around Mexico Beach, troll the buoy line, car bodies, and the virginia reefs (all public numbers). Troll a duster with a frozen cigar minnow. Continue trying different colors until you find what they like and then go to it.

My favorite fishing hole. I was raised in a house where the lower boat ramp is now. Still have a lot of family living at Mandalay and the Rise. Always like to hear reports from the Aucilla. Thanks.

Yes. There used to be a fish house, and dock there. I lived with my grandparents who ran a little bait and ice store. Their main income was the boat ramp fees. Mine too, as a kid I made my extra money helping folks launch their boats. No such thing as drive on trailers then. You just about had to get your feet wet. That's where I came in. Excuse to get wet and make tips. Life was great. Our house was up under the cedar trees to the left of the boat ramp. State decided they needed it more than our family in the mid seventies. They also needed JR's Gas and Grocery up by the bridge. That belonged to my Uncle Jr. It didn't get it's name from Lester Jr. who runs it now, contrary to what people now think.
