Yates Creek 6-10-10

Post by CSMarine »

Started out at Yates Creek with my wife and granddaughter Thursday morning. When we got to the creek it was bone dry. Too low to launch a 14 footer. We decided to walk the bank and scoop up crabs until the tide came up some. We ended up with five gallons of good sized crab. Ran back up to the house to drop off the crabs. When we got back the water was high enough to launch. The wind was already starting to pick up, but still manageable. Stopped at the first oyster bar to catch bait. My granddaughter begin filling the bucket with just the right size pinfish with her Zebco 33, 10 pound test line, number 6 hook and a small piece of squid. After about 10 or 12 pinfish, she hung into a very nice trout almost 20 inches, which we landed. My wife and I decided that might be a good place to start trout fishing. We both used a live pinfish under a cajun thunder. For the next hour we trolled around the oyster bars catching some very nice trout. Then it happened again. My granddaughter caught another big trout on the bait rod. We continued catching fish on the rising tide all morning. As the sun got hotter the wind picked up, so by 2:00 we decided to call it quits and head to the bank. It was really great to be fishing and actually catching with my two favorite ladies, my wife of 36 years and my granddaughter. Icing on the cake was the fine fish supper and the boiled crabs we caught that morning.

Nothin nicer than a proud young lady next to the fish she caught. She is lucky to have a cool granddad.

Oh, and nice fish too.
Ducks, turkeys, flats fishing. Who has time for golf?

Yes, thanks Chalk for all the fine lessons. I kept telling my granddaughter all day, "here let me show you something my old fishing partner Chalk taught me." You do believe that don't you? :smt005
