My old Garmin 178C is having problems and I am looking at the 500 series to replace it. However, I do not see a setting to have sonar on the left and map on the right. It only has the map on the top and an unusable sonar on the bottom (1.5" display). If you set the screen exposure it shows it how I want it but the screen brightness bar seems to stay at the top blocking the data. Does it ever go away? Is there a better map/sonar combo in the $600 range.
Many thanks!

Re: Garmin 500 Series
I recently got a Garmin 400 series. I like it a lot. I need to change my transducer location. I am not able to read depth at speed due to turbulence from my trim tabs.
