Panacea Offshore 7/30

Post by groupertherapy »

Made a late night decission to go and almost called it off 'cause the wind was 10kts all night. But, hit the water early and watched the sun come up from 8 mi out over a bit of cross chop. First stop I have not fished before. Produced only short gags and reds.
Set off for 10 mi run to 65'. Got tired of the chop and redirected to a spot with more favorable wave direction.
Quarter mile from the spot saw birds diving and fish slashing. From the fins it looked like sharks so almost didn't go look. The fins were cobia on a ball of glass minows with spanish underneath picking up the scraps. Further down was a school of bull sharks in 4-8' range. The cobia were so thick we just dropped a live pin in front of the one we wanted to catch. Kept our two that were 25+. Amazingly the sharks just observed and did not participate in the event. This old man saw the bear coming so we quit the playing in the school. Ran over to the destination and caught a 29" gag right away. Got a red in the boat and started in on the spanish.
Time to go so my buddy puts out a large pin on a free line while we got ready for the run in. Only a min and his phone rang with line smoking off the Cabo 70. The pic speaks for itself.
Super day on the water that almost wasn't (even if it was hot as JT's goat). And, BTW we could not have been of his spots because the were full of fish, big fish.
