Dealing with Withdrawal symptoms... Shooting Snipe.

Post by bman »

So Duck season is over but I just dont want to put my gun down.
I'm not a deer or turkey hunter, Trout is closed. So what is a guy to do?

Chase snipe- Season is open here till the 15th.

I scouted a great area during duck season and went back yesterday to find 100s of birds.
They are perfectly camouflaged for their environment.

Much easier to find in the water

A limit of 8 Snipe shot with my Uncle Walters Remington Model 11 20 gage. The gun is at least 63 years old.

The are crazy challenging to shoot- they either flush way early or wait till you just passed them to jump.
They let out a BARK when they flush and fly very erratically.

A little about the gun: [url]http://www.wisnersinc.com/additional_in ... 11.htm[url]
I shot my first duck with it as a kid. Its recoil and weight are light. I love hearing the old mechanism cachunk every time I pull the trigger!

I thought you needed a burlap sack and a garbage can lid to catch a snipe?

I could have just jumped out the boat and caught it, If I had a burlap sack. HAHAHA

They taste like a quail to me. I had completely forgotten that they were still in season, I might give them a try one afternoon this week. Also I dont know what that is in the first video but its not a snipe. They are way smaller and would have blown out of there way before getting that close.

Haven't hunted snipe in years. Awesome bird and hard to hit!

Not enough around here, so I've switched to quail. Hard to put the smoke pole down.
Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!
