St. Marks Offshore 2/13/2011
My dad and I decided to to give the old angler a run today and see if we could get a gag to break out of their igloos and grab some lunch. It was a no go on the groupers part. We cleard the sea buoy at 10am to the slickest seas iv seen since last summer. Headed south of buoy 24 and hit some live bottom patches in 30ft. Nothing but sea bass and grunts. Due to the frigid 53 degree water temps we made the call to head to deeper water knowing they have all probably headed deep. Hit 45ft of water at 1230 and there was a bit more life but nothing ot write home about. By 2pm we had boxed 10 seabass to 15" and 2 flounder to 21". We caught a dozen undersized gags to 20" but no a good one to be found. Jumped around to a few more holes with no one home. SLOW SLOW SLOW...but we still had fun and enjoyed runnin wide open in flat calm seas at 42mph at 4800 rpms the whole 21mile trip back to the sea buoy. Got some seabass for the greese and would have had to throw the grouper back anyways. Only saw 6 other boats out and about offshore. Two more months and they will be thawed out and ready to eat...tight lines
