Auto spark plug question

Post by RodBow »

Now that I got the boat in shape, my 93 Chevy van V8 is not wanting to run so good. I thought it was bad gas 2 tanks ago but it still wants to act like it wants to cut out (just like water in the gas). This happens at all speeds - warm or cold. So far I've checked air filter and a few plugs...

So is it -
A - bad gas;
B - a bad plug;
C - carb rebuild;
D - loose plugs (see next);
E - EGR, PCV, EEG, or DSP (dem socialist party);
E - other;
F - too early to tell (TETT for JT).

I have just taken 4 of the 8 plugs out and they look OK however - how uncommon is it to find your plugs just finger tight???
Even while removing the boot a couple turned on their own. I'm wondering why none have blown out yet..

Thanks

Yup should be more than finger tight. Though they only need to be 18-22 foot pounds of torque, that is much more than 5-10 inch pounds at finger tight.
I would do as JT said. Change the simple stuff first. Also it is stuff that needs to be changed anyway if it has any age or miles on it.
Fuel filter
Spark plugs
Cap, rotor, wires.
You mentioned a carburetor? I would think that year truck would have a fuel injection throttle body?
PCV valve.
Air filter.
A can of Chevron Techron will do wonders for cleaning injectors or carb jets.
Good luck,
FF
