8 Tarpon jumped - 0 landed (Video) 7-14-2011

Post by DHaun »

Eight jumped - none landed. I can find them and even find them feeding, but I still remain a failure at properly landing a tarpon. Jumped on topwater spooks mostly and one on a pogie. On the flip-side I have realized I am a consistently proven Sailcat angler - plus I made some great memories with my family so its all good. Plus my son caught his first shark which was a nice treat.

We were visiting family on the Ochlockonee and this was my first time fishing this area out of my boat - very nice location - the water was laid down nice most of the time - great inshore fishery!

Wes Lancaster remarked upon first site of a wild tarpon melee busting bait "they do not even look real....they look like a dream" I replied that's why we chase them!

I also found some nice trout spots and a few of us limited on snappers further West a couple days which were really nice on the grill. I'll be targeting more tarpon the next few weeks after work when the weather is right. Its been too windy the past week. Goal is to not only get one boatside again but to get my hand in its face! Then looking forward to some more TN stripers after August.

I have only heard of one lure that may work...but if anyone knows what can fool them when they are chompin' glass minnows I am all ears.

Poon Failure but still a great time!
