Evinrude Tuneup in a Can

Post by Mister Mullet »

anybody know where I can get some Evinrude spray tuneup? I've used it before and it is outstanding. Melts away all the brown crap in carburators caused by ethanol. Much better than Sea Foam. Take the drain plugs out of your float bowls, squirt it in and give it time to do its magic. You won't believe the brown crap that will come out of the bowls. Cleans the low-speed jets too. Also squirt some through the fuel lines and carb throats. Anybody else ever use this stuff?

Haven't used it, but Shields Marina in St. Marks will carry it.

I just heard another recommendation for BRP fuel stabilizer from a dealer in Maine who winterizes 300+ boats and treats them for ethanol. He swears by it.

Figured he did. I buy all my non-ethanol gas at Shields, so I haven't really been worried about it. But I'll probably just using the BRP additive just for a little insurance.

Thanks for the information. I have a 1989 48 hp Evinrude that set up for 10 years that I just put on my latest project boat. The motor runs great all the time except when idling and kicking it in and out of gear like when you are driving onto a trailer. It wants to die out. Could be your "Tuneup in a can" would help it idle better.

JUST GO TO WALLY-MART AND GET A CAN OF CHEM-TOOL, IT WILL DO THE SAME THING, IT WILL CLEAN OUT THE GUNK AND TAR IN A CARB, I JUST TAKE THE HOSE LOOSE AND FILL IT WITH CHEM-TOOL AND CRANK THE ENGINE UP, BE SURE YOU HAVE WATER TO THE ENGINE, IT WILL CONTINUE TO RUN AFTER YA TURN OFF THE IGNITION, THE CARBON IN THE CYLINDER MAKES A SMALL GLOW PLUG UNTIL ALL OF THE CHEM TOOL HAS BEEN BURNED UP.
