Good spots for grouper fishing?

Post by bsflynn23 »

I am new to this end of the gulf (grew up in central/south Florida on the gulf side) and I don't know of any good points to hit for grouper fishing up here. I'm planning on heading out Saturday and would like to know of some wrecks/reefs out there.

Thanks in advance.

Put in at Lanark Village, ask Culrich where to go "inside the Lanark store", or just follow the channel out past Dog Island and start trolling North or South when you get to 30+ feet "or troll out to the SE once you hit 30+ if you prefer deeper water" and watch the fish finder" :-D
Welcome aboard and good luck

Or you can try putting in at the lighthouse.
Follow the channel out past the birdrack and then head SE.
After about 6-7 miles you will see the stone crab trap buoys.
They stretch for miles. Troll around them.

Rotary Reef

Buoy 26 area

South of Buoy 24

165 degrees from the saint marks sea buoy run to 30' start trolling watch your bottom machine for spots to drop baits

the oar reef where they dumped the st george island bridge rubble. Its on all the charts

you can even catch grouper on the St Marks reef just a few miles south of the lighthouse.

several other close in reefs to the east from there can be good too

those crabbers know where the rocks are. the advise about trolling around them crab buoys is good.

This link takes you to the charts page on this web site. There are coordinates for a lot of the public reefs and wrecks. Good luck.
