Seen ducks while fishing St Marks to Aucilla R?

Post by BlindHog »

Anybody out there seen many ducks in their fishing in recent days? Interested in sightings from St Marks east to say Aucilla/Econfina/Keaton areas.

If you know the duck species that would be great too. Like bluebills or redheads. (bluebills have black heads and redheads have, well -- red heads)

Thanks.

Only saw a handful of buffleheads and other divers Monday when fishing St. Marks and the East River.

JT and I spotted huge rafts of ducks from a distance while fishing the mouth of the Aucilla during the club tournament earlier this month. Couldn't ID the species, but they were black--bluebills maybe?

I would be very interested in knowing the types of ducks you bag out there. I don't hunt ducks, but last year, it was amazing at all the ducks I saw around the Aucilla.

Thanks, silverking. I have heard through another source that there are redheads in the Aucillla River area now. Maybe that's the large rafts you saw.

Redbelly7, the 3 main food groups (at least for ducks) at the coast are bluebills, redheads and buffleheads. The buffleheads are small and drakes have lots of white on their heads. Of course I see wigeon at the St. Marks lighthouse pools all the time, but never down my shotgun barrel for some reason.

We saw a group of 20 redheads fly over fishing the east river last Sunday. Saw a few groups of reds and bluebils in the aucilla 2 weekends ago. Big rafts way offshore. I'd love duck report if you care to share.
