St. Marks on Friday

Post by tallykenj »

A buddy and I were able to find a chance to get off work early and head out to St. Marks. Although we knew the water temp was low and fish probably wouldn't be around, we headed out toward Four Mile Creek close to Noon. Amazingly, the fog was still very thick. We fished this and few other areas without getting a bite. After an hour, we headed up river and fished various spots between the power plant and toward the bridge. We saw a bunch a boats along the way. Everyone I talked to had either not caught anything or were only catching small fish. My friend and I caught a few dozen small trout, a 15" inch redfish and a few other types. Around 4:00, the fog started rolling in around the power plant and at 5:30 the visibility was very low.

Good luck to everyone the weekend.

I was also on the river from about day break till the fog rolled back in around 5:30. The water temps ranged from 57 to 63. Caught two nice reds (22" & 20"), 7 sea trout from 18" to 20" and a few whiting and plenty of short spec trout. All where caught on live shrimp. All in all had a great day on the water with my little brother.

Nice, I was planning on going down there in the morn with my two little ones, are they closer to the plant or closer to the bridge?

I would say closer to the bridge is where we caught our reds and saw another boat reel in about 5-6 mid slot reds. Good luck! Will be back next weekend!

Made it down there about 830 and fished till about 1130 all we caught were small trout, grunts and a couple very small reds. The kids had a good time and the there hours were all my nerves could handle but I will say at about 10 the bite really picked up. So we headed back to the fort and made it till about 150 of the landing and ran out of gas, trolling motor got us home. All in all a fun day with the kids :P

A buddy and I fished on Friday afternoon at Mashes Sands and did not have a bite. Saw one redfish but he would not take. Saw as couple of guys at the landing when we got in and they had a box of sheephead and said the caught them out the mouth of the river. Have not been able to figure that one out. The water was beautiful but the fog was thick.

When your fishing with the live shrimp, are you fishing with a float, or are you tight lining it?

CSMarine, I've been doing it both ways. I was getting bites Friday. I'll be back out there Sunday trying it again.

Thanks Kenj. (Kinda confusing Kenj, Kenfly, and I'm sometimes called Kenny) Hard Knox, me and the wives are heading down there Monday. Try to leave us a few. Where do you buy your shrimp, and how much?
I lived in St. Marks when I graduated from High School, (about 100 years ago) but it's been a while since I fished there. Next time your in St. Marks, stop by Bo Lynn's Grocery and say hello to Miss Joy for me. Tell her you know Kenny. She pretty much raised me.

CSMarine,

I'm all over the place with bait. I try and use everything. On Fri (and yesterday), I was using live shrimp. My wife likes dead because she doesn't like them moving around when she's trying to hook them. When using live and frozen, I get them from Sheilds. I keep my boat there.

I saw Miss Joy outside the other morning. Great Lady.

As for Kenny, my family and childhood friends call me that. :D
