Been there a ton of times!! Great fishing. Go to the second boat ramp at Sweetwater Marina and Capt. Jack and Cindy will be glad to point you in the right direction. My people over there have been catching reds in the duck ponds using Gulp be we always loved catching them on topwater. Those reds over there aren't near as picky as they are here. Sight fishing is the norm. over there so take a good pair of polarized glasses.

Great!!! the guys I'm going with, who have been a lot as well tell me the water is real murky and you can use straight braid without the fluor. leader? that true or would you recommend using one? you said sight fishing so I'm assuming that you can somewhat see them?

No need for a leader, straight braid works great. The water color changes allot due to the weather and tides. Sometimes you can see down several feet and sometimes you cant. Dont worry though, even if the water muddies up you will still see them tailing and moving in the shallow water.

First, pack what you need to eat because no restaurants nearby. Second, bugs should be getting bad. I used "insect blocker" light clothing in pants, shirt, and buff to cover my ears and nose when they got bad. I also bought the pyrethrin spray for my hat and this worked well.

We sight fished and used mainly black johnson spoons, cajun magic spinner baits with an LSU colors paddle tail, and white 5 inch gulp soft baits with a weightless worm hook. You have to place the lure about two feet in front of the fishes nose, and that takes some practice. Otherwise, you can blindcast a cajun thunder and a gulp but it is a lot less fun. I used 20 lb braid and a 20 lb uni/uni tied flourocarbon leader. Ask the locals where the fish are because they move depending on river flow, local rainfall, and tides.

If you intend on keeping an over 27" redfish (you can keep one in LA out of a 5 per person daily bag) bring a serrated knife or an electric knife to be able to fillet them. The bigger reds have tough scales and bones that defy a regular fillet knife.

We caught a lot of fish.

My biggest one:
