Alright Gents (AND LADIES) I Need Some Help
Posted: April 26th, 2012, 10:11 pm
Alright ya'll, I need some input on the following scenario:
I walked by my daughter's phone the other night (she is 12 and is in 6th grade), it was vibrating, and I saw there was a message for her that she had a "Words For Friends" game reply from a friend of her's dad (who is in the 36 - 38 age range, not exactly sure the correct age as I really don't know him). Me being old school like I am told my wife that I didn't think this was appropriate and that this should not be happening. My wife somewhat agreed, however, she defended the chivalry of the man in question. She did advise that she would follow up with our daughter on this matter. My daughter told my wife that the man in question's daughter said that she felt sorry for her dad because he didn't have any friends but her to play "words with friends with". So my daughter and her friends "friended" him to play this game because they felt sorry for him. To my wife and daughter, this appears to be o.k., but to me, I have a problem with a man 25+ years older than my daugher playing "words with friends" with her. My wife, along with a couple that we are friends with said that I am being over protective (they all know Mr. X and say he's a stand up guy, I really don't know him, but it doesn't matter much in my book, i.e. if you aren't related (and even that might be a stretch) you as a 36-38 year old man shouldn't be playing phone games with 12 year old girls, period. Despite the fact that he did not initiate the game, I still have a problem with him continuing the game with 12 year old girls, sorry, but that is just how I see it.
Therefore, I need ya'll to please weigh in and tell me one of the the following:
A.) It was all innocent, and I am just being an overprotective father
B.) This does seem somewhat unusual and you have a right to be concerned
Or
C.) You are correct to be concered with a 36-38 year old man playing "words with friends" with your 12 year old daugther and her friends, especially since you do not really know him.
Thanks everyone.
