BSB Traps?

A friend ran across a float in 65' of water. Looked like it was abandoned. Decided to see wahat was on the other end. He said the rope was slimy from being out for a good while. When he got it to the boat it was loaded with BSB's. They dropped the trap back down. When they took off they noticed a couple more markers. Are these traps legal?

Yes. And if you were running out of Carrabelle they were most likely Dino Millender's traps. I would not want to be the guy would was caught messing with his traps. Also it is a federal crime to do such a thing.

Black sea bass are trash fish. Anyone catching a bunch can call me and I will dispose of them for you.

fish traps in general have been outlawed, but FWC has made some limited exceptions, as in this case. Fish traps are terrible devices, responsible for almost destroying the reef-fish populations in the Keys. If it weren't for divers cutting open ghost traps (ones without surface markers or pirate traps) there would be no fish left. Before the traps were banned there was an attempt to have the traps contain an escape panel that would deteriorate over time and allow fish to escape from lost or abandoned traps, but they didn't always work. Personally, I don't think there should be any exceptions to the trap rule, but that's just my opinion.

Wow i didn't know you could trap those. What a great idea of a way to save bait. Caught about 60 of the dang things a few weeks back. They'll eat anything. Caught one that was about 8'' trying to eat a LY bigger than it was. Good thing they don't grow much bigger, they'd likey eat everything in the ocean!

Wow i didn't know you could trap those. What a great idea of a way to save bait!

Just be sure that they're 10" or over or you can be fined... when fishing for bait we sometimes catch as many as pinfish if we're in the least bit of a rocky area, but unless somebody knows something I don't the regs still apply. Been mightily tempted to use shorts as bait before when out of pinfish territory, but avoided that temptation in order to comply with DA' MAN'S rules.

Yeah I don't think you can use bsb for bait and if there legal why would you want to, just as good or better than grouper !!

why worry about who has the traps
Well all need to do thing to put food on the table,its the same if u go out catch over the limit or catch shorts
Now who can say they haven't broke the law in one way or the other ( speeding drunk driving ect ect lol )
