cobia & bird racks
A lot of people have told me that you can find cobia around the bird racks? my question is what attracts them to the bird racks or why? is this a pretty good fact? or is this just another fish tale? i do appreciate anyone's time and advice. thanks again
Re: cobia & bird racks
they hide around structure because they are a bunch of wimpy fish for wimpy anglers - no reason to target them in this area...

They will hang around pretty much anything floating or moving slow. I have heard stories of folks floating a tethered sheet of plywood with rubber balls on the corners behind the boat to attract them.

I know for a fact you can spread out a newspaper(several sheets and layers) untl it is about 12 x 12 feet square. If cobia are in the area they will soon congregate under the newspaper shade.
WHOSE FISH IS IT?

Re: cobia & bird racks
I landed this fish last spring by myself. It ate the eel and was taking drag when the hook pulled. Couldn't understand why until it popped up again off the bow. I made another cast, it swirled and ate the eel and I used a Jimmy Houston hook-set on it the second time. When I got it aboard, it had a fish partially swallowed in its mouth and I'm convinced I hooked into the bait the first time. Yet the cobia still came after the Whip-it eel. That's what sold me on their effectiveness.
The natural (olive/pearl) is my favorite, but I've also caught them on the red, lime green, and pink/silver flake eels. Ling think they're all candy!
Caught trout and reds with the little ones (pink and watermelon) this past winter. Hopefully the pinfish won't be a problem. Good luck and let us know how you do with them.
