Mercruiser Mechanic for Outdrive Problem

Post by JPVolunteer »

Outdrive is mysteriously loosing oil (The reservoir has needed refilling often and there is no sign of where the darn oil is going). I've done all the regular service for the past 10 years, including replacing the impeller, replacing the solenoid, etc. but like an idiot, I've neglected the lower unit except for regular oil changes and grease.

I don't feel up to the diagnosing, tearing down, and repairing (or totally replacing) the outdrive myself right now. Can anyone recommend a good mechanic?

Thanks in advance.

I found a good mechanic - Me.

The first time I do something to the boat (or anything major mechanical) I'm a little hesitant. Here is how I overcome that: Read, Read, Read, Do, Read again. I just pulled my stern-drive (using a little cart I just built this morning.) No problem, Pressure tester is on the way, I think I'll buy an alignment tool while I'm at it.

If JPVolunteer asks again about a mechanic, remind him he has one already.
