REDFISH ANYONE?!?!?! 6/19
Went out of Econfina yesterday in search of redfish. The day of the NFGFC tournament we went around and got tons of hits and lost 3 giants at the boat but shortly had to turn our focus onto trout. We ended that day with our 15 trout limit but all were under 17 1/2" and all in 5-6 ft of water. But anyways, back to the story. I got to my cousins house around 4:30. Noticed the trailer a little jumpy and realized the tire was shredded . Got it changed and flew down the highway getting to the river at sunrise. We went out and tried the first hole. Couple of strikes but nothing special. After that we went down my next hole and drifted down the bank. Caught a couple of pups. All of a sudden BAM!! A huge strike on topwater and instant hookup on a 27 1/4" redfish.
27 1/4"
Then my cuz caught one out of the school that was 26"
Then I caught one in the slot that was 26" but don't have a picture of it.
Next will caught one that broke his rod and was too big for the cooler.
After some more huge strikes and the loss of one that was well over 30" we decided to try for some trout though we already had 2 keepers we caught in the redfish. We went deep and nothing. we went shallower and nothing. So I made the executive decision to go back and catch some more reds and hope for some keeper trout. We ended up catching 8 keeper trout in redfish territory with the biggest being 23". Also ended up with another slot red about 22".
To sum it all up we got what we came for. We caught 12 redfish that were small, slot and overslot. Lost a bunch but caught more. Caught a bunch of trout also.
GREAT DAY AND TIME FOR EVERYONE ELSE TO GET OUT THERE AND CATCH EM!!!!!!

Very nice. Redfish give me a challenge. I haven't figured them out yet. It's good to see you tackled some.

Messing with my hand fed reds I see......
Seriously! Great report! Nothing beats a red on top water for sure!
Did you have any problem with sharks trying to get your fish?
Just curious?

RHTFISH- Nah we never had any sharks try to get after them. We did have a bull shark about 8 ft long lurking around the boat for some of the day though..
