Has anyone either caught, seen or heard about bait (LY's) in the Lighthouse canal this year?
A couple of years ago (2010), we found them in there but not last year or earlier this year.
We are headed down in a couple of weeks and wondered if it would be worth our time to venture in there.

Re: Canal bait
Three weeks ago they were all over the Stoney Bayou/Deep Creek canals east of the Lighthouse. One of the reds I hung on a freelined canal LY shot up & hit it topside like a bass on a plug.
The baits I netted were palm-sized ones, schooling by the 100's near the banks.

Bullet,
We've had this conversation in years past, and this year did not produce much for me in the canal. Been away from the local waters for about a month so things may be different now but I didn't see much in the canal all summer. We were getting our mud minnows and live pins around the east side of the lighthouse on the shoreline. Not as much live bait around as years past but this summer for us was the year of the top water, tie one on and start walkin the dog. Good luck!

Re: Canal bait
See Salty Gator's post below about night fishing. It sounds like it wasn't easy, but he got some bait in the canal in the dark. Still, as Luc says, we're not seeing it like we use to, when I could catch some even if he wasn't there. Haven't even tries all Summer, with the scallops being so present, it's best to just get out of the canal as soon as possible.
I reminded Luc about a post you had earlier about netting pinfish on the flats with a little "bait". We never got around to trying that. Been catching almost what we need on small hooks, but it's a full time job.
And although we've only tried a couple of times, have not seen much action to the west, near your hot spot. Anxious to hear how you find it.

Re: Canal bait
I have not seen the LYs this year in our canal at all. In 2010, I fished them almost exclusively because they were so plentiful and the trout love them. Last year, I was only able to net them one time and they were big and we did not have a lot of success on them. This year, we have a ton of glass minnows and a few finger mullet. Maybe the bracish water has them displaced. Small pins worked this weekend, but there were a ton of little sharks.
