Stump Hole Cape San Blas

Post by A. Mulvey »

I'll be visiting Cape San Blas from April 3rd-10th. I was wondering how the fishing has been at the stump hole, I did ok the last time I fished it, but missed the big guy; he hit my spook so hard it looked like a hand grenade went off!! Anyway, I'm looking for a little redemption!! In particular, I would like to know how the topwater bite has been? Also, how has the surf fishing been? :-D

Mr. Mulvey,

You should be hitting the Pump Hole at just the right time. The trout will be full of roe and hungry! Sorry to hear you missed the big guy last time. You probably set the hook too early. Rookies tend to set the hook right when the fish hits. Try leting him take it under before you set the hook.

I fished the beach there today--launched my yak by the rocks across from Stump Hole. Caught about a jillion small Spanish, with a few chopper blues thrown in. Did not see any cobes, however  . A guy surf-fishing when I dragged my yak back out had a bucket full of whiting, but no pomps.
