Radio Frequency?

Post by flatsbroke »

What channels can I get an automated radio status check on? And is there a certain channel that I can hail BBF members on because either 1)I'm not getting out 2)you are ignoring me,lol 3) y'all are too busy tearing up the fish(so unless you're J.Dice or S.Taylor, probably not)

Most folks monitor 16 and once they've been hailed by someone, they advise the person which channel to switch to in order to talk "usually 18"

If you can get weather channel 6 loud and clear your antennae is working. If you can not get loud and clear weather then you need to start looking at the antennae. I'm in Hahira and have working vhf, we could meet half way and try yours out.

I'd hate to have a working radio in the boat and have a friend/acquaintance sinking and not know it because my radio was turned off.

I'd hate even more to be sinking and none of the closes boats have their radio on.

I was fishing out of Econfina about 10 years ago, when some guy started calling GLENN early in the day.
Called him about every 3 minutes for hours on end.
Haven't turned mine on since, except to occasionally check weather.

On the channel 26 and 27 Sea Tow radio check be sure you say radio check. This phrase triggers the play back. I.E. Radio check, Yaba do, Yaba do. You will get the Yaba do back. If you don't get your voice back then you need another radio or antenna.
The Tide-Dancer and Tide-Dancer II is always on channel 16.

I usually don't keep it on,JT, but would like to know most every trip that I'm getting out. Also explains why I couldn't raise you one day at Ecky when I knew you were there in the sled. I even introduced myself at the ramp! :D
