Was on the water before daylight. Idled to the back of Little river and fishing by first light. Water temp in the back of Little River was 58 degrees. Too cold. Never moved a fish back there.
Looked at several creeks during the course of the morning. All the creeks were cold and dead. Found the warmest water in the main lake. 65 degrees. Caught my first bas at near noon, on a spinner bait, in 2.5 feet of water on a point in the main lake. Caught 5 more in the next hour, all off of points in the main lake. While working a cove later in the afternoon I heard a couple of fish break the surface behind me. Started chunking a rattle trap away from the bank. Missed the first strike, but the strike was awesome. 10 casts later I thought I had hung on a stump. I was working the rattle trap fast and it stopped dead still, then started swimming off. 6.5 lb. bass. Total for the day- 6 bass, all in the lake. They haven't moved into the creeks yet. The water is still too cold. But, they will bite if you can find um. My guess is the first five I caught were reaction bites to the spinnerbait. I didn't catch a fish on a worm all day. The last fish I caught was feeding. The water warmed in the afternoon. And the fish started moving.Another week or two of warm weather and they should turn on.
