Hi Everyone,
My buddy from Hungary - his name is Attila (really, it is) - is in town visitng and I wanted him to see what it was like to fish the flats.
We put my little jonboat in at the lighthouse at 7 ish and headed out around the eastern flats. Wind was perfect - just blowing enough to move the boat parallel to the coast. We ended up with three Spanish and one Speck in the box after about five hours on the water. We also caught a bunch of shorts - Spanish and Specks – and a couple damn pufferfish - talk about ugly!
Everything we caught was on live shimp under a CT or an EQ in about 3-7 ft. I threw surface stuff at them - chug bugs, etc. - but they didn't seem to want any part of it. There must also be some bigger fish around because one of the mackerel we caught, which was about 22 inches, had a huge, fresh, bite mark on its head. Bad day for that poor fish.
Interestingly, the trout were pretty few and far between, unlike last week when there were tons of trout and few mackerel.
Oh yeah - they were patrolling the saltwater ramp pretty hard so make sure you have all your paperwork in order and your fish all measure up.
Wish I could get out there today, but I think I need to do some yardwork to keep my marriage together.
