Jacobs first duck!

Post by bman »

My buddy Jason asked if I would take he and his 11 year old son out to try and kill Jacobs first duck.
I called a friend with a flooded corn pond near lake Miccosukee.
It usually holds a lot of wood ducks but with the big lake low the owner warned me there would be few birds.

Just before legal time about 25 woodies made their exit. Then one or two came back but well out of range.
Still a pretty morning but with blue sky and no birds I thought the trip was a bust.

About 30 minuets later a flight of big ducks came into the pond.
and Jacob got his first duck- a Drake Redhead!

I'm a little shocked since this lake is 50 miles inshore and the Miccosukeeis dry.
Never would have thought a group of Redheads would have come that far inland to a shallow corn pond!

Its a wonderful day in the neighborhood!
