shell point/ ST. Marks 3/27

things just fell into place at the last minute Friday and we were able to make an unexpected return to the flats to fish Sat. Things got off on a bad foot early Sat. spent 45 minutes on hold to get our 2 guests their license.... went to bait store and no shrimp but as we were leaving to drive to Crum's store owner said shrimp were on the way so we waited. Then when we went to oyster bay ramp it was crowded and a resident said we could not park there because it was private and only 2 vehs could park there... so I sent my son to park back at shell point village and drove boat around to get them..... not on fishing trip to argue.

suppose to be on water @ 0815... got on water @1015... spent 45 minutes @ piney Island with no bites so we went back to the sand bar @ live Oak to see if any of last weeks spanish were still there .... THEY WERE!!!!!!!! 3 and a half hours later 4 of us have 22 BIG Spanish in the boat 5 @ 24 inches and over and one @27 all this during the slack tide.
All on live shrimp under CT with 2 to 3 ft 60lb flouro leader... the 40 lb would not last. We lost more rigs to these bigger fish than we did last week. They were in 5 to 7 ft water.

we wanted some trout and because of your reports we felt like we had a better chance in the east... so after lunch we headed to Cobb Rocks and then to 3 feet of water like ya'll been preaching. got there on a rising tide. made several drifts toward a oyster bar in a rocky area that had a white pipe east of Cobb and started catching nice trout mixed with 13 and 14 inchers.

Head back to Shell Point Village at 5:30 with 22 spanish and 11 trout 16 to19. My friends first time on flats and he was thoroughly pleased.

Had one more great day with my 18 year old (with college etc. they will be getting fewer) everyone had a wonderful day!

Thanks to all for the info your openly share here... it makes a big difference. :D :D

That's the Pinhook Rocks. And I guess that's an OK place to fish. I've been there a couple of times.... :-D :-D

WTG! I have yet to catch a spanish this year.
