A unique website dedicated to fishing information from Florida's Northern Big Bend. This includes the area from the Econfina River west to the Apalachicola River
The Lionfish Invasion Is In Full Swing according to FWC.
No size limit or bag limit commercial or individual... "FWC has removed the daily bag limit and is allowing persons to harvest lionfish without a recreational fishing license so long as they are doing so with pole spears, Hawaiian slings, dip nets and other devices designed and marketed exclusively for lionfish...." FWC ENCOURAGES people to remove lionfish in Florida waters to limit negative impacts to native fish and wildlife.
They are edible but may yield small fillets, but are really good when fried in cornmeal. I believe if they really wanted to get rid of them they would put a $10 bounty for every lion fish caught and turned over to FWC.....

There is a lot of talk of harvesting Lionfish. We might want to remember that the meat might be delicious, but be careful of the spines. They are venomous. Some people are very sensitive to their venom and can have extreme reactions, like that of a bee sting to a person who is allergic.
Not trying to scare anyone, but please use care when handling these critters.
