Stayed in the fresh water Saturday to try and beat the wind. Went over to the river hoping to catch a mess of bream. We didn't catch a lot of fish, but the ones we caught were huge. The redbellies were so wide that their face was almost flat. We had about 15 fish when we got home. The big fish were only biting worms--not much action on crickets.
Sunday afternoon I took the wife and kids to this little mud hole (and I really do mean mud hole) and let them fish off the bank. I wasn't really expecting to catch anything much, mainly just letting the kids play. After an hour or so, my wife started pulling out hand-sized bream (not as big as the ones from the river, but still good size bream) one behind the other and then she even pulled out a couple of crappie in the 12" range. We ended up with a mess of fish and didn't even have to hook up a boat.
I guess you never know where you'll find fish unless you test all the possibilities.
Gotta get busy--going saltwater out of St. Marks in a little while.
