Panacea Wading 7-20-13

Post by Jhults11 »

After receiving a hot tip from a great fishing buddy of mine I decided to head to the coast Saturday afternoon with a friend in hopes of getting a bite. We made it to the coast about 4pm but the storms kept us listening to music in the truck for about 45 minutes but as soon as they broke the sky turned overcast and the sea turned to a mirror :-D . We made our way to the area and it was really slow for the first hour. About 530 the tide started dumping out and the fish really started going off! I struck first when something hit my bait and headed towards Mexico. After nearly being spooled Chris and I debated back and forth what it was. I thought big shark and Chris thought big Ray but we were both wrong when we got a glimpse at the 33" Bull Red at the other end of the line :smt007 ! I was pumped once we landed her but was pissed we had no camera, oh well we know we caught it. Back to fishing and I strike again and land a solid 27" Tourney Red right on the button. In the bag she goes and were back at it. Chris strikes next and lands a solid 25" Red. On the way to the bag the fish thrashes and gets away, oh well..it happens. Back to fishing and we hook 3 more good Reds but pull hooks on two and land another 23" that made his way to the bag. The school moved on so we started moving again searching for active fish. It wasn't long before we found a school of slot trout and landed a couple mid slot fish that made there way into the bag. It was getting dark and we were about to leave so I decided to fan cast our way in and low and behold get a huge hit and I was on with a Gator Trout :o ! Back and fourth and Chris finally gets a grip on the big girl. She went 24.5" and is my biggest of the year. Almost dark so we headed to the truck with $4it eating grins on our faces. Another successful evening of summer wading and a big shout out to my great fishing buddy (fellow forum member) for providing me with me with some intel! -Tight Lines

That intel is classified information... But if you search long enough you'll find areas, just takes time...

Nice job. Whats the bag? You drag a mesh bag to keep the fish alive?

Yeah h-m we use a black mesh bag with very fine holes. This not only holds fish well but keeps the scents and flash down of fish while dragging them through th water while wading.

Cut bait...seems to be what they want during the summer months while fishing this dirty water that seems to encompass our area during the summer!

Right on! Good story, good pictures and good fishing! I like it when someone knows how, shows how, tell how and does it again. You are one good fisherman and can do it several different ways. I can see on your grins that you like it!

That's what it is all about.

Thanks for the post!

Do it again.
