St. Joe Scallops

Post by ugadawg »

I've been at St. Joe for the past few days enjoying some beach and scalloping before school starts back. Went scalloping yesterday and managed a 4 person limit behind Black's Island. Had to work for them a bit, but they were there.

When cleaning them, we came across an interesting question:

I like to use a quart mason jar to put my cleaned scallops in because it is convenient when I am cleaning to have a solid container. My mother uses Ziploc bags because they hold more. We tested this and sure enough, the scallops that completely fill a quart mason jar will fill a quart ziploc bag about 3/4 the way. This means that one of these is not a true quart, and I am going to find out which one when I get home. I insist on using the mason jar to err on the side of caution, because going to court is not my idea of fun.

So, my question to you is, what do you use to measure cleaned scallops with when you are on the water?

ziplock. No glass on my boat. As an officer I would not want to argue to a judge that a ziplock is not a true quart and therefore I issued a citation to an otherwise legal sportsman.

Glad to hear you found some in SJB
