Ochlocknee Shoals/Rotary Reef area fishing report?

Post by Rhodes »

I’m just curious if anyone is catching anything out around Ochlocknee Shoals and/or the Rotary Reef area? I hardly ever see any catches posted from these near shore reefs. I will be down this weekend to fish out of Panacea and thought about trying some bottom fishing out around these areas. What might I expect to catch and what would be the best baits to use?

Trip report: It was a mixed bag. We trout fished Friday morning and only boated 4 keepers before heading out to Barge 24 where we caught a ton of pink mouth grunts. We only kept 2 that were big enough to fillet. Also caught three keeper seabass, and one nice Spanish. Saturday was much better. We had our limit on trout by 10:30 and then headed back to Barge 24 and caught a bunch more pinks mouth grunts and kept 8 big enough to fillet. Headed back to the hill in a stiff wind about 2:00. There were boats all over Barge 24 on Saturday and I was wondering if anybody else on this site was there and what they caught. All we caught were mainly these grunts. Had hoped for a grouper, cobia, or king but my aerator on my live well died so all we had for bait was cut squid and the grunts would hit as soon as it got down. It was my first trip out to 24 barge and I’m not sure what type fish might be around this time of year? I have a pic of Saturdays catch but can't figure out how to attach it???
