What size do YOU use? :smt043

It really depends. For blacks (mangroves) I like the 1/0 or 2/0 owner mutu light circles.

If the red snapper are biting good, you can catch them on regular grouper tackle, 9-11/0 circles and 80 pound leader. Last year with captain Jay I had to drop down to 40# flouro and a 1/0 red live bait hook and hide the hook in the bait to get them to bite.

Generally lighter stuff is better for all snapper.

I gave sizes, normally 1-2/0 circles. I have caught more red snapper on 80 lb mono than anything, but I was fishing for grouper and they were bi-catch (good ones I'll admit). If you know there are snapper in the area and you just can't get them to bite, then I would suggest going to lighter stuff.

Snappers have sharp teeth so you need a leader with some abraison resistence.

All will be revealed grasshopper, when you can snatch the cigar minnow from my hand. :-D
